Joe Biden's Democrat party have claimed the first major scalp in the US midterm elections.
They have claimed the US Senate seat in Pennsylvania, a gain from the Republicans as the race to control the upper house remains very close.
Donald Trump's Republican Party are currently forecast to reclaim the House of Representatives with a very slim majority, with over 60 races yet to be declared.
Washington reporter with The Guardian, David Smith, says they will not have made the gains they had anticipated:
"We have been hearing about this red wave or even red tsunami and it's really hit a blue wall. It's been very anticlimactic for the Republicans I think. Elections are often a lot about expectations and a bit a lot of hype about how Republicans are going to make these these sweeping gains and it just hasn't really turned out that way."
