US military jets have chased a small plane in Washington DC, causing a sonic boom.
The Cessna aircraft had violated airspace and then crashed into a mountainous area in a neighbouring state.
Reuters has been told the Cessna was believed to be on autopilot.
The sound was heard at around 3.30pm local time.
