The Vatican has revealed the late Pope Benedict will be given a "simple" funeral in line with his wishes.
The former pontiff - who died yesterday aged 95 and resigned in 2013 - will be laid to rest in St. Peter's Square on Thursday.
His successor, Pope Francis, paid this tribute:
"We feel such gratitude in our hearts, gratitude to God for having given him to the church and to the world, gratitude to him for all the good he accomplished, and above all, for his witness of faith and prayer, especially in these last years of his recollected life".
