The World Health Organisation says lockdowns have had a very negative effect on many people's lives.
The number of cases of Covid-19 across the world now stands at nearly 4.2 million, while 286,000 people have died.
Many countries have begun to ease restrictions, which the WHO says have slowed the spread of the virus.
But director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus says they have taken a heavy toll on many people.
"Strong measures have come at a cost, and we recognise the serious socioeconomic impact of the lockdown, which has had a very detrimental impact on people's lives.
"Therefore to protect lives and livelihoods, a slow steady lifting of lockdowns is key."
