The World Health Organisation claims the coronavirus will be 'with us for a long time'.
The warning comes as the total number of cases across the world passes three million.
More than 211,000 people have died of the illness - with more than a quarter of them in the US.
The WHO's director-general, Tedros Ghebreyesus, says the rate of growth of the virus is slowing.
"As lockdowns in Europe has seen declining numbers in new cases, we continue to urge countries to find, test and treat all cases, and trace every contact to ensure declining trends continue.
"But the pandemic is far, far from over."
