Ivana Bacik has been confirmed as the new leader of the Labour Party.
Nominations for the position have closed, with the Dublin Bay South TD, the only name put forward.
She takes over from Alan Kelly, after he announced his resignation earlier this month.
Political commentator, Johnny Fallon, says the party's decision to unite behind one voice is a strategic one.
"I think they've taken the decision to really go after the vote that's going to the Social Democrats, particularly in transfers in the the last election - that's where Labour used to do well.
"I think the move to get Ivana Bacik in is very much an appeal to that vote, it's to the Social Democrat vote, and it's an attempt to say we have a very unified voice, a unified leader, that's the one thing the Social Democrats don't offer, a clear leadership figure."
