The investigation into the disappearance of Kieran Quilligan in Cork has been upgraded to murder.
His remains have been identified after the 47-year-old went missing from the city centre on the 1st of September 2023.
A post mortem examination has been completed on human remains found in Rostelllan on Monday.
Irish Independent Southern Correspondent Ralph Riegel says it's a significant development in the case:
"Major developments. Gardaí confirmed that the post-mortem examination, and the follow-on tests, that were conducted on skeletal remains which were discovered just off the Midleton to Whitegate Road on Monday - they were confirmed as the remains of Kieran Quilligan, a 47-year-old man who vanished without trace from Cork city centre last September".
