Locals in Charleville are calling for immediate action to be taken to combat road fatalities in the area.
Two people have been killed this year on the town's Main Street , with campaigners saying that the stretch of road needs urgent attention.
Their deaths prompted fresh calls for new safety measures and at the end of last month Transport Infrastructure Ireland agreed to fund immediate upgrades to the pedestrian crossings and also to provide money to design a relief road to take heavy goods vehicles out of the town centre.
15,000 vehicles a day travel through the town and the majority of them are heavy goods vehicles
Evelyn O'Keeffe from Charleville Community Forum told RedFM News that they cannot afford to wait any longer.
"It is only a matter of time we feel until the next person, as nothing at all being done whatsoever to the street where the incidents are happening.
"That was the eighth death, and all of them involved HGVs. We can't take the people out of the town, but we can take the HGVs out in the long term.
"In the short term, we're hoping to have some sort of immediate signage, for awareness."
The group are hosting a rally to highlight their concerns at the Library Place tomorrow at 5.30pm
