A Covid-19 lockdown in New Zealand's largest city has been extended for another week.

The restrictions in Auckland on 1.7 million people are to contain the spread of the Delta variant, where authorities have found 33 cases.

The country had been largely Covid-19 free until an outbreak imported from Australia prompted the lockdown on August 17.

Auckland is cut off from the rest of the country where restrictions have since been eased.
