There are no reports of any injuries following a major fire at a derelict former convent in Cork city late last night.
It's understood the fire broke out at the former Good Shepard Convent before midnight
Huge plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the building.
Sunday's Well road is closed between Convent Avenue and Strawberry Hill road and the fire service says the road closure is likely to remain in place for the rest of this morning.
In a statement to RedFM News, Gardaí say:
"At approximately 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, 16th April 2025, Gardaí and Fire Services responded to reports of a fire at a derelict/ unoccupied building on Convent Avenue, Sundays Well, Cork.
Fire crews and Gardaí remain at the scene, which has been preserved for investigation. There are no reports of any injuries.
Local traffic diversions are currently in place at the junctions of Convent Avenue with (a) Sundays Well Road and (b) Strawberry Hill."
Cork City Fire Brigade are dealing with a major fire in the Sunday’s Well area.
