A 40-year-old man, who suffered life-changing injuries after being attacked in the city with, a corrosive liquid - says he had wanted to die in the moments after the attack because of the burning in his eyes, face and head.
35-year-old John Paul Carey, who's originally from Glanmire and had a previous address at Dunmanus Cresent in Knocknaheeny - has been jailed for nine and half years for assault causing serious harm to Francis Costello - and assault causing harm to his brothers Roy and John.
The incident happened at the Costello's home on Connolly Road in Ballyphehane on the night of 4th of March 2022.
Francis Costello spoke to RedFM News outside Cork Circuit Criminal Court following the verdict this afternoon:
"The burning in my face, my eyes and my head were getting more severe by the second. I didn't know what was happening. I've been through a lot of tough times in the last 20 months. I believe today I'm coming out the other side. I have no words for John Paul Carey. It's inhuman what he did. You wouldn't do it to an animal".
