Gardaí in Cork city have launched an investigation after a man in his early 40s was stabbed multiple times this morning.
The incident happened outside a house at an estate in Mayfield at around 7:45am.
It’s understood the Fire Service were initially called to the Annalee Grove estate in Mayfield this morning following reports of a small fire.
Firefighters discovered a man in his 40s with multiple stab wounds and administered care until advanced paramedics arrived at the scene.
He was rushed to Cork University Hospital with what are being described as serious injuries and is expected to undergo surgery.
Gardaí are conducting door to door enquiries and a house and an area of ground close to it been sealed off for a technical exam which is expected to take place this morning.
