Man charged with murder of 33-year-old in March sword attack charged with two further offences

30-year-old Dylan Scannell of O’Rahilly Street, Cobh, county Cork appeared at Mallow District Court today.

Ian Baitson (pictured) died at Cork University Hospital on the 19th of March last, four days after he was attacked with a sword at a petrol station car park in Cobh.

Dylan Scannell first appeared at Midleton District Court on the 25th of March and has been in custody since then.

He appeared in person at Mallow District Court today where he was charged with possession of a long bladed sword on the day in question

He was also charged with handling, transferring or possessing cash while knowing it to be the proceeds of criminal activity, at an unknown location between August 2023 and March this year.

Inspector Tony O’Sullivan applied for a two week remand to the 13th of August for the service of the book of evidence.
