A post mortem will take place later today on the body of a man who died after he was attacked with a samurai sword in Cobh.
Ian Baitson died at Cork University Hospital yesterday following the attack in Cobh on Friday night.
Armed Gardaí carried out a search of a house in Cobh town yesterday evening at around the same time it was announced the 32-year-old father of one had died.
He had been in a critical condition at CUH following emergency surgery on a traumatic leg injury.
A Garda family liaison officer has been appointed and investigating officers have appealed for any witnesses or drivers with dash camera footage from Newtown Road in Cobh to contact them.
Gardaí say the results of today’s post mortem will determine the course of their investigation.
