Members of the Irish Nurses Union, Fórsa and SIPTU will stage a lunchtime protest in the city today.
Nursing staff attached to the unions will gather outside St Finbarr's Hospital to highlight their concerns about staffing levels and vacancies.
They have levelled criticism at the HSE's Pay and Numbers Strategy which places a cap on the number of staff working in the health service.
Speaking to RedFM News, Kathryn Courtney from the INMO claims the strategy is effectively a hiring embargo
"Technically, they have lifted the recruitment embargo since July of this year, however they have brought in a Pay and Numbers strategy which has replaced the recruitment embargo. The pay and numbers strategy says that any vacant post as of 31st of December 2023 are now lost and are not going to be filled. So therefore that is a recruitment embargo but just by a different name"
