An audit of the country's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services must be independently led, according to Mental Health Reform.

The coalition says trust in services nationally have been badly affected by the findings in south Kerry.

A review there found 46 children suffered 'significant harm' after being prescribed inappropriate medication by a junior doctor between 2016 and 2020.

The Taoiseach has described the findings as "shocking" and has ordered a nationwide audit of CAMHS.

CEO of Mental Health Reform, Fiona Coyle, says it's important that's carried out independently.

"It really needs to be looking at the clinical oversight in services across the country to ensure that practices are being followed, that there are safeguarding measures in places, that any bad practices are unearthed at the earliest possible juncture and that they're resolved, and that we understand the broader structural issues that may lead to issues such as this."
