The Midleton and East Cork Flood Action group say their campaign for better flood protection in their area has only just begun.
The group submitted a petition with 15,000 signatures to Leinster House yesterday outlining the supports they need in the wake of Storm Babet.
They have huge concerns over what they described as the "lack of urgency" in providing measures to protect against future flooding and the difficulties people are now facing in securing insurance.
Caroline Leahy from the group told RedFM News that the possible establishment of a task force with representatives from social welfare and the OPW would be helpful:
"It'll certainly be a step in the right direction. I mean, it's hard to say at this point, what would be useful? I suppose a lot of us feel like we're banging our heads against a brick wall at times. But it would certainly open doors for us to at least be able to speak to the people that are in the position to make decisions that really seriously impact our lives. And at the moment, we're not getting in front of those people."
