The Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney says the Government is committed to building a motorway between Cork and Limerick.
The 80 kilometre M20 between the two cities was first proposed over a decade ago.
While it was included in the government’s National Development Plan published yesterday, no completion date was given.
Minister Coveney says the project will still go ahead, but could not say when it will happen:
"There's a strong commitment in this government to build a motorway between Cork and Limerick, but any piece of infrastructure of that scale has got to go through a planning process, a permitting process, and environmental impact assessment and all of the other things that need to happen. Route selection hasn't even been finalised yet."
