A mistrial has been declared in the case of a man charged with dangerous driving causing the death of GAA commentator Paudie Palmer in December 2022.

The judge discharged the jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court after it emerged a juror had visited the scene of the crash.

33-year-old Bohdan Bezverkhyi of Rigsdale House, Ballinhassig, Co Cork had denied the charge

Judge Colin Daly asked the jurors if one of them had visited the crash site at Dunkereen Crossroads in Innishannon over the weekend and they confirmed through the foreman that one had.

Judge Daly said a verdict could not be reached in a “proper way” - as they had broken their oath and said he had warned them "to rely on the evidence".

A Garda jury minder overheard a conversation among jurors that one of them had made certain conclusions about the crash and had discussed with other jurors.

The Prosecution case had been that Mr Bezverkhyi had driven through a stop sign and struck Mr Palmer while drunk behind the wheel.
