Online and mobile banking has grown by 8.6% over the last year.
More than 33,000,000 payments were made between July and September, according to the Banking and Payments Federation.
Contactless payments reached new heights in that time at almost 234,000,000 payments worth nearly €3.8 billion.
Brian Hayes from the BPFI says Covid has contributed to the surge.
"The trends that we saw before covid have just been accelerated because of covid.
"The adaptation towards digital payments, towards digital banking are now the norm.
"These figures that we produce on a quarterly and yearly basis are all going in that direction - showing the relentless use of digital payments across the economy, across SMEs, across households, across consumers."
