A mother of two who stabbed another woman fourteen times with a screwdriver over what a judge described as a “jealously of a romantic nature” has been jailed for two years.
43-year-old Jennifer Cronin of no fixed abode but formerly of Brooklodge Grove, Glanmire, County Cork appeared at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
Jennifer Cronin pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing harm and producing a screwdriver during the attack at Lagan Grove, Mayfield, Cork city in October 2021.
The court heard the stab wounds to the victim’s face, scalp, stomach and other body parts had caused enormous physical damage.
Defence barrister Jeff Hitchmough said Cronin accepts full responsibility and that she had acted on impulse.
The court had previously heard that Cronin had believed the victim was having “liaisons” with her boyfriend.
