Gardaí are appealing to motorists to slow down and “take no chances”, after five roads deaths over the weekend.
113 people have died on the roads so far in 2024, including 16 motorcyclists and motorcycle passengers.
A 40-year-old man from Innishannon died in a road crash at Ballynamona, Kinsale in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Former finance minister and Ireland’s EU commissioner-designate Michael McGrath told RedFM news that driver behaviour must change:
"We all have to look in the mirror, and we all have to see, can we do better? Can driver behaviour generally improve? Because it's just devastating, the loss of life, but also the injuries, catastrophic in some cases, that are arising from these accidents. And you know, the families who are suffering this loss will never be the same".
