A woman has died and a man has been injured after Alec Baldwin discharged a prop firearm on a movie set.
Police in New Mexico says the shooting happened earlier today while the actor was filming his latest project 'Rust'.
The victim's been named as Halyna Hutchins - a 42-year-old director of photography. Ms. Hutching was flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque after the incident but later died.
Shots from the gun have also injured 48 year old Joel Souza, the director of the film.
No charges have been filed but the circumstances of the shooting are currently under investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office.
Juan Rios, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened in the middle of a scene that was either being rehearsed or filmed and that interviews were being conducted on set to determine how Hutchins and Souza were shot.
A statement from the movie production's company, Rust Movie Productions LLC has been released and reads: “The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones. We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be providing counselling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”
