Cork singer songwriter Stephanie Rainey has released the music video for her new song '13'.
The video is set in Cork and stars actor Shane Casey, best known for his role as Billy Murphy in The Young Offenders and young rapper Darren McSweeney aka MC Tiny.
Stephanie wrote '13' in honour of her nephew Fionn on what would have been his 13th birthday. Speaking about the background of the song, Rainey said she was travelling to London the morning of Fionn's birthday and bumped into someone special to him in a very quiet airport terminal at 6am. She said, “It just seemed so strange and poignant. When I got to London I knew I wanted to write a song to mark the day.
“I guess this song is kind of about me learning how hard life can be - for example - I never imagined at 13 that I would suffer such a huge loss like Fionn when I was 17.
“Life's experiences change you but I've found that life is a total privilege. Just getting to be here.”
The video for '13' was directed by Cork based production company Dog Day Media who have previously worked with Ed Sheeran and Beoga.
Stephanie herself is not in the music video as she was only days away from giving birth to her son Jackson who arrived earlier this month. Describing the idea behind the video, Stephanie said, "The story of this video is simple - what would your 13 year old self think of who you have become today? If we could all see the world through the innocent and excited lens of our 13 year old selves we might let go a little bit more."
