That's according to the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission.
Buildings across the country will be lit in purple tonight, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disability.
This year’s theme will focus on leadership and participation.
Chief Commissioner of the IHREC, Sinéad Gibney says Ireland falls behind in terms of employment:
"As advocates in this space and from the disability community themselves, I mean, it's been very clear that employment is a huge issue. We have one of the lowest rates of employment for our disabled population within Europe. Only one in three people in Ireland who have a disability are employed. So this is something that we know is a problem."
