14 deaths were recorded on Irish roads in June, compared with nine in the same month in 2021.
That's according to the CSO, who have found fatalities are on the increase despite traffic levels not yet returning to their pre-pandemic levels.
Car volumes in Dublin were down 6% last month on 2019 figures, while traffic was 5% lower in the rest of the country.
Paddy Comyn from the AA says human behaviour is leading to drivers taking more risks:
"Well, cars are getting safer and roads are better quality but there's still issues regarding alcohol use. Of course, speed is still a factor, accounting for a third of the most recent deaths. So really, while things are getting safer in terms of the material on the roads and the cars that were driving human behavior still is a factor."
