Hoteliers are expressing concerns over a drop in bookings this year.

Research by the Irish Hotels Federation estimates the 2% reduction is equivalent to a €100 million loss.

The national average occupancy in hotels stalled at 74 % last year, with increasing business costs and political uncertainty among the reasons blamed for the fall.

CEO of the Irish Hotels Federation, Paul Gallagher, says fewer events and the passenger cap at Dublin Airport could be deterring tourists

"There's  less events on generally around Ireland this year, so that's going to affect demand, but we're also seeing the airport cap. That obviously is going to play into it, because we're operating currently under a cap, which is the winter cap, and we have yet to resolve the summer cap".
