24 Gardai have been suspended from duty so far this year.

Justice Minister Heather Humphreys says 41 officers were suspended in all of last year, and 21 in 2019.

There's been an increase since Drew Harris was appointed Garda commissioner three years ago.

Sinn Féin's justice spokesman, Martin Kenny, says the new figures are concerning.

"It's a clear indication that there is a level of inappropriate behaviour taking place within an Garda Síochána, and there will have to be action to deal with that.

"We also recognise that the numbers of Gardai have fallen in the last number of years, and that's also very concerning.

"We need to see more Gardai recruited, and we need to see a properly disciplined force."
