One quarter of families say they're worried about not being able to feed their children, with parents increasingly skipping meals themselves to ensure their children can eat.
A survey by Barnardos and Aldi Ireland found parents are feeling stressed, guilty and embarrassed as they struggle with the cost of living.
The study also found that 51% of parents have cut back spending in other areas like utility bills, loan repayments and medical fees.
Barnardos CEO Suzanne Connolly has told the Irish Independent that while food poverty has always been an issue for families, the situation is worsening.
