Those working in the Irish wedding industry say their contribution to tourism, events and the local economy has been completely ignored since the pandemic hit.
According to a recent survey the wedding industry is worth €2.3 billion to the economy however most companies who rely on weddings have seen their business decimated by 75%.
21,000 weddings are at scheduled to take place this year and those in the industry are calling for clarity from the Government and a roadmap to restart the industry and a financial support mechanism to ensure they'll still be in existence when the pandemic ends.
Speaking to RedFM News wedding planner Tara Fay says the wedding industry is not represented or recognised and is being completely ignored by Government.
"The weddings industry as such is not even currently recognised as an industry. We don't currently seem to fall under any particular government department.
"The CRSS or similar types of schemes are related to rateable premises. Quite a lot of people in the wedding industry, because it is so vast, would not have office space or premises. And if they did, a lot of them would have gotten out of their leases or given up their offices because they were so unsure as to what was going to happen."
