40 firefighters from Unite the trade union have taken to the picket line in counties Tipperary and Waterford.
They say it relates to the ongoing failure of the Local Government Management Association to engage with its members.
Most of the country's retained firefighters are represented by SIPTU, which held talks with the LGMA last month in relation to pay and conditions.
At the end of last month Cork City firefighters voted against Workplace Relations Commission proposals to end an industrial dispute over the future of Ballincollig Fire Station.
Firefighters were invited to talks with the City Council after crews began industrial action in April.
The group say some progress was made during the talks and will not be escalating their action for the moment.
