44% of Women who have been through intimate relationship abuse have also experienced suicidal thoughts.
That's the finding from research published today on the eve of World Mental Health Day.
The study by Women's Aid shows the detrimental impact of abuse on young women's health including depression, anxiety and PTSD.
Mary Hayes Project Lead of The Women's Aid #TooIntoYou campaign aims to raise awareness around coercive controlling relationships:
"What's become really clear from that research is that the mental health impact of abuse can be really severe and long lasting, especially for young women who are subjected to it. 84% said that the abuse had a really severe impact on them. So that would include things like, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and also suicidal ideation".
