Five people are suing a city or county council every day over injuries caused by damaged footpaths.
New figures show local authorities have paid almost €150 million in compensation claims since 2017.
Dublin, Limerick and Tipperary have the highest number of claims, though Longford places in fourth, despite have one of the smallest populations in the country.
The Irish Independent reports that both Cork City and County Councils refused to supply figures through their press offices.
