Five men remain in custody this morning after being arrested in connection with alleged match fixing in the League of Ireland.
A total of ten were detained yesterday as part of a three year Garda investigation.
Five were released without charge last night, and Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
Crime Editor with the Irish Times, Conor Lally, expects it to be a long inquiry.
"Of the ten people who were brought in for question we know that five of them are former League of Ireland players, two of them are current League of Ireland players, and the other three are known to some of their players.
"The allegation is back in 2019 there were several league of Ireland games where strange things are alleged to have happened on the pitch, and the betting patterns around those games are also regarded as being fairly suspect."
