The Agriculture Minister says he's confident turkey supplies at Christmas won't be impacted, after bird flu was detected in one flock in County Monaghan.
3,800 turkeys are set to be culled after the discovery and strict restrictions are now in place, near the site, to prevent the spread of avian flu.
Minister Charlie McConalogue insists with the right approach the problem will be contained:
"We're confident that we will be able to contain this and that's why with the steps in place, there's 3800 turkeys concerned in this particular instance. They will be depopulated, but with the right measures and the right approach, we're confident as we did in other years that we will actually contain it and not have a spread and indeed maintain the supply for Christmas which is obviously really important to families across the country, but also to the wider poultry sector."
