AIB is warning people searching for holidays or flights online to watch out for fake travel companies.
It says false websites have become more sophisticated and many request phone numbers and email addresses to complete a purchase.
The bank says such practices are applied to harvest personal data which can result in illegal access to your bank account.
Carol Lawton, Head of Financial Crime at AIB says the message is simple, think before you click:
"Check the bank account number that you're sending the funds to. So look at the IBAN: see is it in the same country as the property, so an Irish bank account for example has IE in the IBAN, and be very wary of any offer where there's a strong sense of urgency. So this is a hallmark of a lot of the scams - just don't be rushed into anything. Just always take the time to make those checks".
