Almost 1,700 cyclists were hospitalised due to crashes or accidents last year.
According to freedom of information figures, it includes 192 children under the age of 9.
391 cyclists aged between 10 and 19 also needed hospital treatment in 2021.
Martina Callinan, from Galway Cycling Campaign, says urgent action is needed to prevent these crashes:
"The HSE inpatient care figures for cycling injuries paints a really grim picture. Particularly for children and teenagers, they are more likely to be cycling close to home. They're playing with their friends outside the front door going up and down the streets. Their bikes are cycling to school, or they're using their bikes to cycle independently to GAA training and chess club and drama classes."
