The amount of drugs seized at Ireland’s ports and airports by Revenue customs officials has decreased by more than 400 per cent over the past two years.

The new figures have been released under the Freedom of Information Act.

They show the value of drugs seized at Cork, Dublin, Knock and Shannon airports, and Cork, Dublin and Rosslare ports.

They dropped from 48 million euro in 2017, to 26 million euro in 2018, and 9.3 million euro last year.

Security analyst Declan Power believes there's a simple reason for the decrease.
