The Limerick man was killed at his home in North Carolina in 2015.
His wife, Molly, and father-in-law, Thomas Martens claim they were acting in self-defence, however a jury convicted them of second-degree murder.
That was later overturned and they were released from jail last year.
Legal affairs reporter Michael Hewlett, from the Winston-Salem Journal, says a date for their retrial could be finalised next month:
"There's been a hearing scheduled for September 21st. The hearing is supposed to be when the judge, the prosecutors and the criminal defence attorneys for Molly Corbett and Thomas Martens set a trial date. At least that's the hope; the last time that the case was in court was March 11th of this year."
