The 72 year old disturbed a group of men trying to steal property from his shed in Adrass Lower in Celbridge at around 9.30 last night.
He was assaulted, and has been taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.
The men fled the scene, and a teenager was arrested shortly afterwards.
