The Taoiseach says it's time to move on from the controversy surrounding Sabina Higgins.
The President's wife wrote a letter that was published on the President's official website and in the Irish Times calling on Ukraine and Russia to agree a ceasefire and start peace negotiations.
Sabina Higgins yesterday released a statement saying she strongly condemns the 'illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine' and is 'dismayed' by the thought that anyone would find 'anything unacceptable in a plea for peace and negotiations.'
Speaking to RedFM News Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the governments position on what Russia has done has not changed:
I think we need to have a sense of perspective about it. I think there has been a lot of debate and that's important, we live in a democracy and it's good that we have people's viewpoints articulated and so forth. In my view, it's time to move on from it. Now, the key point being the Irish government position is rock solid in terms of what needs to be done here. Russia needs to withdraw at a minimum, back to the positions before this war started."
