The army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion after a blast at a homeless hostel in Dublin city.

A man in his 30s died following the incident on Little Britain Street that happened shortly after 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

The Defence Forces carried out an analysis of the scene before handing it back to Gardaí as they continue their investigation.

Reporter with the Irish Times Shauna Bowers says the blast was confined to one room:

A man unfortunately did die. DePaul confirm that he was a service user With them and the Irish Times understands he was a man in his 30's, who was originally from Eastern Europe. The explosion is understood to have been contained in one room, which was occupied by a single person. There were no other injuries."
