The ASTI say proposals for teachers to grade their own Leaving Certificate students will lead to grade inflation.
The teaching union's annual three day conference concluded in Cork yesterday evening.
Education Minister Norma Foley says her Department are reforming the exams from 2024, with students sitting a paper worth 60% of their final mark.
The other 40% would be graded by the student's own teacher.
Speaking to RedFM News, Ann Piggot from the ASTI says the proposals are unworkable and says the current system is very fair to students.
"The same marking scheme is given to everyone, with a set marking scheme. The correctors then have their work examined by external examiners again.
"Some changes could be made, like this year because of Covid, would be that there mightn't need to have as much content on the paper, and students might be given far more choice so they wouldn't be under as much pressure and they would have a very good chance in their exam.
"But for teachers correcting their own scripts - no one wants to move there."
