An attack on a Garda in County Cavan has been labelled 'particularly vicious'.
It's after a Garda was assaulted and doused in accelerant overnight.
It happened in Loughan, Blacklion, at around 2am.
The victim of the assault is being treated for non-life threatening injuries in hospital.
Local councillor John Paul Feeley says the nature of the attack is shocking: a particularly vicious nature of attack in terms of not just physically attacking the Gardaí but also putting accelerant on him. And the implication of that and the danger of that and what these people may have done to him. It's really shocking. It's an issue I think that we need to look at as a society in terms of having Gardaí out on duty on their own."
