Figures from the most recent Bank of Ireland debit and credit spending report show that Irish people are feeling the sting of the ongoing cost of living crisis.
The report which was released today shows overall spending for September dropped by 8% compared to August.
Pub spending decreased by 28%, spending on clothing decreased by 12%, and spending in bakeries dropped by 19% last month.
Spending in Cork fell by 8%, with zero counties seeing an increase in spending.
Commenting on September’s spending data, Jilly Clarkin, Head of Customer Journeys & SME Markets at Bank of Ireland said:
“August is usually a month where workers shut down their laptops, children pack for an adventure and holiday season kicks into overdrive. Therefore, it won’t come as much of a surprise for many people to see the September spending stats indicating that consumers nationwide pulled back a little last month and saved up for what could well be a harsh winter."
