Bord Gáis has announced that it will increase electricity bills by an average of 34%, and gas bills by 39%, from the 2nd of October.
The company is blaming significant increases in wholesale energy costs.
The average electricity bill will go up by over €48 a month, while gas bills will rise by over €43 a month.
Earlier, Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said the government is working on a number of fronts to deal with the energy crisis.
