Gardaí investigating the death of 23-year-old primary school teacher Ashling Murphy have arrested a man on suspicion of her murder.
The man in his 30s is being held at Tullamore Garda Station.
He had been treated in a Dublin hospital since last Thursday – after suffering self-inflicted injuries.
Ashling was attacked and murdered as she went for a run along the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co. Offaly last Wednesday.
Her funeral took place earlier today with The President and The Taoiseach among those who attended.
John Hand, the chief reporter with the Irish Daily Mirror, says Gardai made the arrest earlier today:
“A man in his 30s has been arrested this afternoon, he was arrested at a Dublin hospital before being escorted down to Tullamore Garda station, where he is detained now. The man in his 30s, he can be held for up to 24 hours before he has to be charged or released over the murder of Ashlyn Murphy last Wednesday evening.”
