Breast cancer services are facing 'many challenges' at the moment according to the HSE.
It will tell an Oireachtas committee today it's due to longstanding capacity issues, the Covid pandemic and the cyber-attack.
Over 3,500 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year - and one in seven women will develop the illness in their lifetime.
Donegal GP Ciarán Ó Fearraigh says early treatment is essential.
"The earlier you can pick up a cancer the easier it is to treat in many instances.
"The earlier you pick it up there likely it is that it will be cured, and unfortunately if it's left too long that might not be an option.
"As a GP, if we flag something up as urgent we would hope to be able tog et rapid access, and there are services that are bucking that trend.
"Unfortunately in many of the other services people are still waiting a long time to be seen."
