Social Justice Ireland is calling for core social welfare payments to be increased by €20 a week.
As part of its pre-Budget submission, the economic think tank is urging the government to 'do no harm' to people on low and middle incomes.
The group also wants the government to increase investment in social housing and childcare.
Research and Policy Analyst with Social Justice Ireland, Colette Bennett, says people on lower incomes should be protected in the next Budget.
"We are urging government to do no harm, particularly for those who are on low incomes or middle income earners.
"So we are looking for a package of investments in things like housing, childcare, but importantly as well and things like a just transition, but we're also looking for spending for those who are on social welfare and significantly an increase in core social welfare rates of €20 a week."
