The majority of people want the legal age for the sale of tobacco in Ireland raised from 18 to 21.
The Irish Heart Foundation says almost three quarters of people it surveyed are in favour of the change.
It's calling on the government to now take action and save lives.
Director of Advocacy, Chris Macey, says the numbers of young people smoking in Ireland's increasing.
"The smoking rate fell dramatically over the last 25 years from 41% to 13%.
"It's starting to rise again, and we're concerned it's down to the impact that e-cigarettes have had."
